Frank accepts 'boring' jibes from Spurs fans after Brentford stalemate

Thomas Frank acknowledged that the "boring Tottenham" chants from supporters of his current team made sense following their lacklustre 0-0 draw against Brentford on Thursday.

Frank experienced a mixed reception upon returning to west London, where Brentford fans gave him a friendly greeting, but Tottenham's away supporters voiced their frustration towards the Danish manager.

Having spent seven years at Brentford and led them to Premier League promotion in 2021, Frank was back at the Gtech Community Stadium for the first time since moving to Tottenham during the summer transfer window.

He received applause prior to the match start and was even handed a gift bag by a Brentford supporter.

However, that positivity did not last for the 52-year-old head coach, as his challenging debut campaign with Tottenham suffered yet another setback.

His team managed no shots on goal until added time in the second half, prompting fans to sing "boring, boring Tottenham" and recall players from the clubs more dynamic past squads.

"The supporters clearly were not pleased, and that is reasonable," Frank commented.

"It was not our best showing, though it has two aspects: recognise the solid defence, yet the attacking play must improve."

Tottenham sit in 12th position midway through the Premier League campaign, with Frank yet to bring noticeable progress.

His cautious approach differs greatly from the clubs motto of 'to dare is to do' and the forward-thinking style of his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou departed despite securing Tottenham's first trophy in 17 years via the Europa League victory last term.

Though the Australian faced league difficulties in his own second year, Frank is already facing scrutiny from the expectant north London followers.

Tottenham's solitary attempt on target arrived late, but Richarlison's effort was feeble, straight into the grasp of Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

This result halted Tottenham's 137-match streak in the Premier League without a 0-0 outcome.

Frank's justification for the lacklustre outing versus Brentford is unlikely to sway many sceptics.

"On the upside, we faced a capable home side that demands respect, and we limited their opportunities effectively. That marks a robust defensive effort," Frank stated.

"The main downside was the number of needless errors we committed. We had too many lapses. Up front, we simply did not have the sharpness required today."
