Flick Sees Barcelona Stint as Final Role Yet Wary on Contract Extension

On Tuesday, Hansi Flick indicated that he remains undecided about prolonging his Barcelona agreement, though he is convinced that steering the Catalan powerhouse will conclude his football management career.

Joan Laporta, freshly re-elected as Barcelona president, had earlier expressed his aim to lengthen the 61-year-olds contract from his past roles with Germany and Bayern Munich by another year after 2027.

That said, on the brink of the Champions League round of 16 matchup versus Newcastle, Flick noted that while he savours his experience with the La Liga winners, he must confer with his family before agreeing to stay longer.

"Now is not the appropriate time for such discussions, with tomorrows fixture holding major significance for us, the team, and our prospects," Flick shared with journalists.

"All are aware of my deep satisfaction here. I need to chat with my family initially. There is ample opportunity to address it later, but currently, it is not suitable."

Flick guided Barca to a league and cup double plus the Champions League semi-finals in the prior campaign, delivering an offensive style that has delighted the supporters.

"I harbour no ideas of moving elsewhere or similar notions. No. I am committed here, this will be my concluding club and position, and I am truly content with that," Flick added.

Barcelona managed a 1-1 draw away at Newcastle during the initial leg last week, where they were mostly dominated.

"Tomorrows contest will prove challenging. They form a robust side, pressing intensely one-on-one, and counter swiftly with speedy forwards," Flick remarked.

"We must deliver flawless performance tomorrow, which matters greatly. We shall strive for that."

Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi expressed confidence that his squad can deliver a sharper display on home turf.

" Their energy in their own ground was remarkable. We faced them in the group stage as well," the 19-year-old defender commented.

"Our backline organised well, yet we missed rhythm upfront. Things will shift now. We play at home backed by our crowd."
