Flashscore sources: Chicago Fire target free agent Robert Lewandowski

Sources have informed Flashscore that the Major League Soccer side began seriously pursuing the legendary Polish striker ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

After announcing his departure from Barcelona in May, he is now seeking a fresh challenge and is attracted by the idea of moving to the United States.

He has been made aware of the opportunity and is currently exploring the city to aid his decision making.

Ahead of their planned relocation to a cutting edge new stadium in 2028, Chicago Fire aim to increase fan engagement and market profile by assembling a winning squad featuring well known stars.

The venue will be named McDonald's Park, with construction commencing in March.

It is expected that the coming two years will be a crucial period of growth for the club, and they want Lewandowski to serve as the face of their project.

It is understood that Lewandowski is intrigued by a switch to Chicago, where he would ideally sign a contract until 2029.

MLS currently boasts star names such as Lionel Messi at Inter Miami and Son Heung min at Los Angeles FC.

Lewandowski, aged 37, scored 14 goals in La Liga for Barcelona last season, and netted four times in 11 Champions League appearances. He is now weighing up whether this move is the right fit for him.

Clarity should come very soon regarding whether Lewandowski decides to proceed with negotiations.

Sources indicate that Chicago Fire always anticipated that this summer period would be when they would make an attempt to secure the striker.

The plan is to sign him within the next month, enabling him to join the team when the MLS season resumes following the World Cup.
