Five in a row for Kaizer Chiefs as in-form trio on target against Magesi FC

This result maintains their strong run as they begin a sequence of seven consecutive away fixtures, whereas Magesi failed to climb away from the foot of the standings.

Silva scores once more

Kaizer Chiefs went ahead shortly after the 30-minute point, courtesy of an impressive effort by Flavio Silva.

Glody Lilepo nodded the ball towards him, and with his body oriented away from the goal, Silva twisted around to slot it precisely into the distant corner.

Up to that moment, the game had been tough, and this was the initial effort on goal from either side, yet a display of accuracy and technique broke the deadlock.

This marked Silvas second strike across two matches, and the third occasion this term he has netted in consecutive league outings, bringing his overall count to nine across all tournaments.

Duba adds a second

The lead swiftly extended to two goals when Wandile Duba made it so just four minutes afterwards.

Magesis keeper Elvis Chipezeze advanced to claim a corner yet clashed with a teammate, resulting in him dropping the ball.

It landed favourably for Duba, who fired it firmly and low into the net from a narrow position.

This represented Dubas third goal in his last four appearances, and he has now reached double digits for his career, with 10 goals from 57 outings (36 as a starter).

Shabalala seals the trio

Mdu Shabalala joined the scoring with Kaizer Chiefss third on the 62nd minute.

Replacement Reeve Frosler had barely entered the pitch when he dashed to the goal line and delivered a pass for Shabalala.

The playmaker controlled it neatly before placing it into the far corner, demonstrating fine poise.

This was his second netted in three matches and his fifth for the campaign in total.

Magesi respond with a consolation

Magesi managed to reduce the deficit, though Kaizer Chiefs would regret how it occurred.

A set piece from Mcedi Vandala was floated into the penalty area, allowing Diteboho Mofokeng to slip unmarked between defenders and direct a header goalwards.

It was a solid header, but numerous Chiefs players were preoccupied with the ball, giving him the opportunity.

This was the former Royal AM defenders initial professional goal.

Mayo contributes from the bench

Khanyiso Mayo, recently recovered from an extended injury absence, delivered Kaizer Chiefss fourth with a forceful header.

Frosler supplied it again, this time via an excellent delivery from the flank that suited Mayo perfectly.

The attacker registered his first since September, and only his second while on loan with Chiefs.

Chiefs achieve five straight wins

Kaizer Chiefs secured their fifth league triumph in succession, the first such streak since the 2019/20 season when they claimed eight consecutively under Ernst Middendorp, in that season marred by a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC on the last day that cost them the title.

It marks a remarkable shift in momentum for the team, especially given three prior consecutive defeats before this winning run.

In truth, they have avoided draws in their past 10 encounters (seven wins, three losses) following a goalless draw versus TS Galaxy in early December. Across all competitions, this extends to 15 matches (10 wins, five losses).

This streak relies on solid defending, shipping just two goals while netting 12 in those five games.

Those 12 strikes account for 43% of their full league haul this season, after scoring only 16 in the preceding 18 matches.

What does this mean now?

Kaizer Chiefs pull six points ahead of AmaZulu in fourth, solidifying their hold on third spot and a berth in the CAF Confederation Cup next year.

However, they trail second-placed Orlando Pirates by 10 points but have a fixture to play, plus a meeting with the Buccaneers on April 26.

That encounter might shrink the gap to four points. Could Champions League qualification still be on the cards? It seems unlikely, yet...

Magesi remain at the leagues base, two points behind Orbit College and Marumo Gallants, all with six matches remaining. It appears only these three are truly fighting to avoid the drop.

Kaizer Chiefs face Polokwane City next on Saturday in yet another Limpopo journey, while Magesi welcome Durban City on Sunday.
