FIFA initiates disciplinary action against Spanish FA over Islamophobic chants
During a World Cup preparation fixture at the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, home to LaLiga side Espanyol, Spanish fans chanted "anyone who doesnt jump is a Muslim" in the match that concluded without any goals.
"FIFA has today commenced disciplinary proceedings against the Spanish FA over the occurrences in the friendly versus Egypt," FIFA declared in an official release.
Authorities in Spain began probing the chants a week prior.
Lamine Yamal, the Spain winger, denounced the chants as disrespectful and unacceptable via an Instagram update.
The Egyptian Football Association likewise criticised the chants as a wholly unacceptable "vile racist behaviour," and noted that the actions of a minority of fans would not impact the solid bonds between the Spanish and Egyptian football associations.
