FC Volendam hold Feyenoord to goalless draw as PSV secure Eredivisie crown

A Feyenoord victory was the only outcome that could prevent PSV from claiming their 27th Eredivisie title. The team from Eindhoven had boosted their advantage over Feyenoord to 18 points with a thrilling 4-3 victory against FC Utrecht on Saturday, turning Sundays clash into a pivotal moment for the championship.

Feyenoords coach Robin van Persie had to adjust the lineup at the last minute after Anel Ahmedhodzic and Anis Hadj Moussa were sidelined by injuries. Gonçalo Borges and Thijs Kraaijeveld stepped in to fill those spots from the start.

After a cautious first 20 minutes where just Raheem Sterling and Borges ventured shots on target, FC Volendam grew bolder and began appearing more frequently near Feyenoords penalty area. Yet they could not break through, as Aurelio Oehlers and Anthony Descotte offered only minor threats without real danger.

At halftime with only 45 minutes remaining to stop PSV from lifting the trophy, Feyenoord pressed for a spot kick after Ayase Ueda went down in the box. Official Allard Lindhout waved away the appeal and cautioned Robin van Persie for ongoing complaints.

It was not until the 60th minute that either team truly threatened again, with Descotte challenging Timon Wellenreuther from a tight angle and Jakub Moder drawing a sharp stop from Kayne van Oevelen to maintain parity.

Aymen Sliti seemed poised to give Feyenoord the edge with ten minutes to go, but the promising winger nodded over from a clear opportunity. Volendam then carved out their best moment late on, though Benjamin Pauwels goalbound effort was denied by Wellenreuther in the 88th minute.

In the second minute of added time, Ayase Ueda unleashed a difficult header that Van Oevelen tipped around the post, preserving the deadlock at 0-0 and leaving PSV on the verge of glory.

FC Volendam successfully contained Feyenoord, paving the way for PSV to claim their 27th domestic championship while the margin to the leaders from Eindhoven shrank to 17 points for the Rotterdam side.
