Enzo Fernandez in doubt about Chelsea prospects following Champions League elimination

Enzo Fernandez has hinted that he might depart from Chelsea by the conclusion of this season following the London teams elimination from the Champions League.

The squad suffered a 3-0 defeat at home against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, allowing the French powerhouse to secure an 8-3 aggregate victory over the two legs of their last sixteen encounter.

Sitting in sixth position in the Premier League standings, the world club champions Chelsea risk missing out on European competition for the upcoming campaign.

The Argentine midfielder Fernandez led the team as captain during the match against PSG on Tuesday, stepping in for the injured Reece James.

However the 25 year old did nothing to quell rumours of a potential exit from Stamford Bridge, stating to ESPN I dont know. There are eight matches remaining along with the FA Cup. The World Cup is next and then we will assess the situation.

Looking back on Chelseas most recent defeat to PSG who sealed the tie with two early strikes in the opening 15 minutes at Stamford Bridge Fernandez remarked I believe we struggled to manage the match. During the first leg we lost concentration in the closing 15 minutes and let in three goals. Here it occurred right from the outset.

At such a high standard you cannot afford to concede two goals so early on account of minor lapses. In the end across both fixtures PSG proved superior and merited their progression. Since joining Chelsea we have encountered comparable challenges and managed to overcome them.

For now our priority is to claim the FA Cup and secure qualification for next seasons Champions League.

The eight time FA Cup holders Chelsea will take on third division Port Vale in the quarter finals on April 4.
