Endrick from Brazil hails Lyon as perfect club for World Cup aspirations

The Brazilian forward Endrick stated on Friday that he views Ligue 1 team Lyon as the perfect club to help him get his career back on track before the 2026 World Cup.

"I will battle hard to secure a spot in the World Cup," the 19 year old informed AFP, noting the event will occur in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from 11 June to 19 July.

The young player has been overlooked for the national squad since Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian manager, assumed control of the five time world champions in May last year.

Loaned out from Real Madrid with no purchase clause, Endrick is set to feature in his first match for Lyon on Sunday versus Lille in the last 32 stage of the French Cup.

"I have discovered the perfect club and I am eager to take to the field," the Brazilian remarked about Lyon, who sit in fifth position in Ligue 1, trailing leaders Lens by 10 points.

In the opening months of the campaign, managed by Xabi Alonso, he featured for merely 11 minutes in La Liga with Real Madrid, to whom he transferred in 2024 from Palmeiras.

The season prior, while Ancelotti remained at the helm in Madrid, the promising Brazilian appeared in 37 fixtures across various competitions, netting seven goals and delivering one assist.

Brazil will kick off their World Cup journey on 13 June against Morocco, followed by encounters with Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
