Emegha nets brace to guide Strasbourg over Lille in Ligue 1

Strasbourg skipper Emanuel Emegha scored twice as his team secured a 2-0 win against Lille on Sunday, moving ahead of them into fourth position in Ligue 1.

Having sat out Strasbourgs previous five league fixtures due to a thigh injury, Emegha came back strongly. His strikes around the interval boosted Liam Roseniors outfit to 22 points, trailing table toppers Marseille by three.

Lille slipped to fifth following their fourth loss this term, now lagging Strasbourg by two points.

Emegha put the home team in front in the 33rd minute, smartly controlling and finishing Diego Moreiras delivery that had skimmed over defender Nathan Ngoys head.

A poor back pass from 2018 World Cup victor Olivier Giroud in the 62nd minute left Emegha clear on goal, and the 22-year-old slotted it away without error.

In other action, Lorient and Toulouse shared a 1-1 result in Brittany, each finding the net from a penalty.

Metz triumphed 2-1 over Nice, pulling clear of the drop zone and up to 14th place.

Auxerre, rooted at the bottom, stay three points above danger after a 2-0 reverse at Angers, where 18-year-old Prosper Peter claimed his third strike of the season.

Champions Paris Saint-Germain could regain the lead later if they beat sixth-placed Lyon.
