Elfsborg narrowly defeat Djurgarden while Hammarby draw frustratingly at home against Halmstad

Elfsborg 2-1 Djurgarden

Djurgardens flawless opening to the season came to an end with a loss against Malmo during the weekend and their chances of recovery were boosted 19 minutes into this match when Bo Heglands corner was headed in at the near post by Piotr Johansson.

By the time Matias Siltanen made an off the ball foul during a corner the visiting backline had already been tested by Elfsborgs quick reply and Frederik Ihler slotted away the spot kick to equalise for the hosts after 25 minutes.

The score remained 1-1 right up to the 88th minute when a short corner was then crossed towards the near post where Leo Ostmans positioning disrupted goalkeeper Jacob Rinne causing him to fumble the ball into his own goal.

Elfsborg have become the initial team to hit ten points this term although either Sirius or Malmo could displace them from the summit when those sides clash on Thursday. The Iron Stoves now have two victories and two defeats.

Vasteras 3-3 Hacken

Newly promoted Vasteras who are the sole team to have earned a draw against Elfsborg this year boosted their seasonal points to five in an exciting stalemate with Hacken who fought back repeatedly to maintain their undefeated record.

However the standout performer was Vasterass Mikkel Ladefoged who opened the scoring just four minutes in by nodding in an Ismet Lushaku corner although Hacken equalised eight minutes later when Jeremy Agbonifo finished after Adrian Svanbacks low cross from a fast break.

Shortly before the interval Vasteras regained the lead and it was Ladefoged once more who charged into the box before bending a superb strike with his right boot past the keeper.

Vasteras appeared poised for their first home victory since returning to the top division as the 60th minute neared when Jonathan Ring won the ball in the Hacken territory and fed the pass to Ladefoged who rounded off a flawless hat trick with a composed left footed effort.

Yet victory eluded Gronvitt who shipped a goal six minutes after when Svanback switched roles to goalscorer following neat play involving Mikkel Rygaard and with seven minutes left Amor Layouni assisted Filip Helander in securing a share of the spoils for the Gothenburg outfit who occupy third place on eight points.

Hammarby 1-1 Halmstad

For some time it seemed Halmstad were about to claim one of the biggest upsets of the season on the road at Hammarby but the inconsistent league leaders avoided embarrassment thanks to a leveller in the second half.

The 3Arena supporters fell quiet in the 10th minute after Ludvig Arvidssons effort was parried by Warner Hahn only for it to fall to Otso Liimatta who calmly converted the loose ball.

Hammarby controlled the ball and chances for the remainder of the game and although they had thrashed Orgryte 8-0 over the weekend they struggled to breach Halmstad until the 58th minute when a set piece delivery reached Frank Junior Adjei on the edge of the box from where he smashed it into the top corner.

In spite of more than 30 minutes to clinch all three points Hammarby could not manage it and they remain fourth on seven points even though they have netted at least three more goals than any rival. Halmstad continue without a win but they have now doubled their points haul from this result.

Orgryte 1-2 Brommapojkarna

Still smarting from their 8-1 hammering by Hammarby Orgryte endured another defeat on home soil against Brommapojkarna who claimed their inaugural victory of the season.

Towards the end of the opening period David Isso put BP ahead by glancing in Mads Hansens delivery but Orgryte restored parity midway through the second half when Christoffer Styffe rose to nod home Tobias Sanas pass.

The draw held for just five minutes before Lukas Bjorklund who had come on for Isso 15 minutes prior was alert to poke in Rasmas Orqvists cut back to seal the points for the Bromma Boys. BP now sit on five points one ahead of their opponents who also have four games played.
