Eddie Howe Accepts Fault for Newcastle's Struggles on Away Trips

Eddie Howe accepted responsibility for Newcastle's poor performance away from home following their ninth consecutive away match without a victory in the Premier League, ending in a 3-1 loss to Brentford on Sunday.

Newcastle's team opened the scoring through Harvey Barnes, who notched his 50th Premier League goal in the 27th minute at the Gtech Community Stadium.

However, the visitors unraveled after the interval, with Kevin Schade levelling the score in the 56th minute after Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope failed to deal with a flick during Michael Kayode's long throw-in.

Defender Dan Burn received a second yellow card and was dismissed for fouling Dango Ouattara in the penalty area in the 73rd minute.

Igor Thiago slotted home the resulting penalty, and the Brazilian striker added another goal in added time, leaving Howe downcast on the fourth anniversary of his managerial appointment.

"I am deeply disappointed that we found ourselves in a strong position once more but failed to make the most of it," Howe remarked, after his squad also suffered a 3-1 defeat at bottom-half West Ham the previous week.

"It was always going to be a challenging and demanding match, and we had to rise to the occasion.

"A single error led to their opening goal, and we required a response that never came. It made for a hugely frustrating conclusion."

Newcastle sit in 14th position, only two points clear of the drop zone.

Unlike their robust displays at St James' Park this term, Howe's players have appeared hesitant during outings.

Emphasising that fixing the issue falls on him, Howe stated: "This differs from the West Ham encounter. It is vital today that I back the players.

"We recognise it falls short of expectations, and I assume complete accountability for it. If we aim to improve, we begin immediately, and that is my focus right now."
