DR Congo defeated by Chile after Ebola outbreak prompts venue switch

The fixture was moved to the French city and held without any spectators after officials in Cadiz, which was initially chosen to host the match, cancelled it due to public health worries connected to an Ebola outbreak in the Central African country.

Following a first half that ended goalless, Dario Osorio gave Chile the lead in the 52nd minute and Matias Sepulveda added a second goal four minutes from the final whistle. Joris Kayembe scored a consolation for the Congolese team in the 88th minute.

American authorities have informed the teams that players and support staff must have spent at least 21 days outside the DRC and be free of symptoms before they can enter the United States for the World Cup.

Congo are scheduled to fly to their World Cup base in Houston on Thursday and begin their Group K matches against Portugal six days later. They will then take on Colombia in Guadalajara on 23rd June and Uzbekistan in Atlanta on 27th June.
