Dortmund Mount Thrilling Late Rally to Claim Victory Over Stuttgart in Bundesliga

Playing host to the team sitting just above them in the Bundesliga standings, Die Schwaben displayed strong early determination. Chris Fuhrich, back with the Germany team for the first time since November 2024, seemed especially lively, even if his bold long-range attempt was easily handled by Gregor Kobel.

Sebastian Hoeneß’s squad kept up the pressure, forcing Marcel Sabitzer to dive in front of a Fuhrich shot after Kobel had parried Angelo Stiller’s effort.

Stuttgart refused to let up, yet a goal still proved elusive, as Deniz Undav nodded over from a long throw by Ramon Hendriks, while Serhou Guirassy blocked a fierce Fuhrich cross.

Fuhrich then gave the home side some breathing room after Undav earned a free kick from Nico Schlotterbeck close to the penalty area, with his set piece drifting harmlessly over Kobel’s bar.

His subsequent powerful half-volley also sailed high, just before Carney Chukwuemeka wasted a Dortmund chance by blasting wide prior to half time.

The opening of the second period brought more promise for Niko Kovač’s men, though Lorenz Assignon still drew a stop from Kobel via a cleverly taken corner for the visitors.

Karim Adeyemi and Fabio Silva entered the fray for Dortmund just past the hour, soon followed by Jamie Leweling as both sides sought an advantage in the closely fought contest.

Ramy Bensebaini had a minor moment of concern before his back header reached Kobel, but neither team managed to truly test the keepers despite further forward changes.

Stiller and Leweling each unleashed a curling effort that missed the mark late on, leaving the league’s highest scoring match on course for a dull draw.

However, Adeyemi altered the script in the 94th minute by expertly controlling Jeff Chabot’s clearance attempt and slotting home with precision.

Seconds later, Julian Brandt capped a rapid breakaway by smashing the ball into the top of Alexander Nubel’s goal, clinching a fourth straight win for Die Schwarzgelben that puts them 11 points clear of Stuttgart and nine adrift of table toppers Bayern Munich.

In contrast, Die Schwaben slip below RB Leipzig on goals scored after suffering their initial loss in seven Bundesliga outings.
