Dortmund extend deal with in-demand Nmecha until 2030
Borussia Dortmund revealed on Wednesday that they have prolonged Felix Nmechas contract for an additional two years, taking it through to 2030.
According to the German newspaper Bild, the midfielder from Germany will benefit from enhanced conditions in this updated agreement.
"I feel immense gratitude towards the club for their faith in me. My goal is to honour that faith by performing at my peak for Borussia Dortmund," Nmecha commented in an official release.
At 25 years old, Nmecha developed in the Manchester City youth system prior to transferring to Wolfsburg in 2021. He transferred to Dortmund two years afterwards for an estimated sum of 30 million euros ($34 million).
Under the guidance of manager Niko Kovac, who previously coached him at Wolfsburg, Nmecha has shown marked progress and has reportedly drawn interest from various Premier League sides, with speculation about a possible comeback to City.
For Dortmund, Nmecha has netted 13 goals across 108 appearances. On the international stage, he has featured in six games for Germany and scored on one occasion.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl remarked that Nmecha proves "extremely valuable to us in the centre of the pitch, and he consistently devises inventive approaches, even when under intense pressure.
"He delivers exceptional standards on the pitch, both for our squad and for the Germany national side."
This contract renewal provides a significant lift for Dortmund during a patchy campaign.
Even though they are enjoying one of their strongest Bundesliga runs in recent times, Dortmund remain far adrift of frontrunners Bayern Munich and have been eliminated early from the Champions League as well as the German Cup.
Together with team captain and central defender Nico Schlotterbeck, Nmecha ranks among Dortmunds brightest talents and has established himself as a vital component in the midfield setup under Kovac.
