Djurgarden edge resilient Kalmar while Malmo claim initial points over GAIS

Djurgarden 3-2 Kalmar

Djurgarden kicked off the season with full points and sealed another victory through a solid performance, though the match against promoted Kalmar was far closer than the scoreline suggested, marking back to back losses for the newcomers to the elite division.

The home team took the lead within the opening two minutes, as Mikael Marques dashed along the right flank and delivered a precise low pass that Bo Hegland converted into the far corner with ease.

By the seventh minute, Djurgarden had doubled their advantage, with Oskar Fallenius breaching the away defence, only for his effort to be denied by Jakob Kindberg, allowing Kristian Lien to capitalise on the loose ball and slot it home.

Kalmar mounted a comeback before the half hour, pulling one back when Robert Gojani lofted a pass forward, which young Charlie Rosenqvist controlled superbly before rifling in his debut top flight strike. Moments later, Melker Hallberg swung in a partially cleared set piece, and Achraf Dari nodded it past the keeper.

Kindberg made several crucial stops after the break to keep his side in the game, but with just five minutes left, Djurgarden broke the deadlock again, as Matias Saltinen supplied a cross from the right for Lien to rise and head in, amid offside doubts.

Lien passed up a hat trick opportunity late on, seeing his spot kick rebound off the upright, yet Djurgarden had secured enough to claim the summit position temporarily.

Malmo 3-1 GAIS

Malmo produced a commanding opening period to notch their opening points of the campaign, leaving GAIS still searching for their first. The breakthrough arrived at the 21 minute mark, with Jens Stryger Larsen curling in a delivery that Pontus Jansson attacked with a powerful header, crashing against the bar before crossing the line.

Number two followed shortly after, as the GAIS custodian Kees Sims mishandled a clearance, gifting it to Oscar Sjostrand, who calmly chipped it beyond the stranded shot stopper.

The supporters did not have long to wait for a third, with Sims again at fault, misjudging a Taha Ali delivery and sparking chaos in the area that Otto Rosengren eventually poked clear.

GAIS grabbed a late reply through Shalom Ekong, who blasted beyond Robin Olsen following a William Milovanovic pass, but Malmo comfortably claimed their inaugural victory under Miguel Angel Ramirez.

Halmstad 0-3 Degerfors

After starting with a 3-0 reversal at home, Degerfors bounced back emphatically by repeating the scoreline away to Halmstad, another side among those pointless so far.

Halmstad suffered an early setback conceding right at the end of the first half, unable to deal with a corner, leading to Daniel Sundgren unleashing a volley in the ensuing tussle that left Tim Ronning helpless.

Ten minutes into the second period, the margin grew, Sebastian Ohlsson trapping the ball and volleying it goalwards over his shoulder, though the home goalkeeper might have anticipated it better.

The decisive third came deep into stoppage time, as Nahom Girmai drove a low ball across, which Marcus Rafferty diverted in from close range.
