German Football Association Renews Contract with President Neuendorf Until 2029
On Friday, the German Football Association (DFB) revealed a four year extension to the presidency of Bernd Neuendorf, whose forward thinking plans involve exploring a bid for the World Cup.
Neuendorf assumed the role in 2022 and secured re election without opposition up to 2029 via a ballot at the DFBs Frankfurt offices.
We are now entering a new phase, one of shaping the future, Neuendorf remarked.
Thanks to our collective work within the association, we can once more act decisively. We aim to progress with boldness.
Over his forthcoming four year stint, the 64 year old plans to assess a potential German application to stage the World Cup in 2038 or 2042.
In comments made earlier this week, Neuendorf indicated that the DFB will address this issue ahead and examine the prerequisites for making such an application viable.
It is evident that just a handful of global associations hold the necessary facilities to manage a 48 team tournament along with its demands. We can assert with assurance that our setup is outstanding.
Throughout his leadership, the ex journalist has guided the body through a steadier era.
Before his appointment, the DFB faced multiple controversies. Its prior three leaders, Wolfgang Niersbach, Reinhard Grindel, and Fritz Heller, each stepped down amid pressure, as the group grappled with monetary challenges.
Come March 2024, the DFB struck a pact with US sportswear giant Nike to assume kit supply duties from 2027, thus concluding a 70 year tie with German firm Adidas.
Though the move sparked debate, Nikes proposal was said to be twice Adidass value, helping the DFB strengthen its fiscal position.
Germany organised the World Cup most recently in 2006.
The DFBS immediate attention lies on pursuing the 2029 womens Euros, where a ruling is due in early December.
