Deniz Undav Nets Late Decider in Germany's Friendly Triumph Over Ghana

Germany started aggressively at the MHP Arena, with Nick Woltemade directing a prime chance narrowly wide from six yards and Florian Wirtz's free kick grazing the post, all within a lively first 10 minutes.

Although Ghana grew into the game afterwards, Germany kept dominating the attacks, yet Jonathan Tah fired over from near distance around the 30-minute point, and then Wirtz's tidy effort got disallowed following a VAR check for Woltemade's offside position.

Still, Ghana's solid defence cracked in added time at the end of the first half, as Jonas Adjetey was penalised for handling Angelo Stiller’s header in their box.

Kai Havertz calmly converted the penalty for his first goal for Germany since November 2024, handing Julian Nagelsmann's side the lead at the break.

Emboldened by the late goal before half time, Germany came out strongly in the second half, as Woltemade headed replacement Lennart Karl's cross against the bar.

That said, as the home team found it hard to extend their advantage, Ghana struck back effectively on 70 minutes via Abdul Fatawu, who finished from 10 yards after a setup from Derrick Köhn.

Near the end, Germany regained control through a superb combined play, with replacement Deniz Undav providing the crucial strike.

The loss in Stuttgart leaves Ghana on a run of four straight defeats, hardly perfect buildup for this summer's World Cup. They meet Mexico soon, whereas Germany will play Finland, pleased to maintain their perfect head to head streak.
