De Zerbi confirms Maddison, Vicario and Solanke will miss Leeds United clash
Tottenham are currently in 17th position with 37 points and only three fixtures remaining, as they battle to avoid relegation under De Zerbi, who has secured victories in his previous two outings.
Leeds hold a six-point advantage and sit three places higher than Tottenham, virtually securing their top-flight status despite their promotion last year, continuing to exceed expectations.
Consecutive triumphs on the road against Wolves and Aston Villa have lifted Tottenham from the relegation zone for the first time recently, yet they need to maintain form to prevent a drop to the Championship.
De Zerbi keen to retain Palhinha
The Italian manager also discussed the prospects of Joao Palhinha, whom Tottenham brought in on a one-year loan from Bayern Munich last summer, complete with an option to purchase.
De Zerbi has enabled the 30-year-old to excel in his initial appearances, including netting the decisive goal versus Wolves. When questioned about retaining the midfielder, De Zerbi was straightforward and positive.
"Absolutely 100%. We must build around individuals like this. Beyond their skills as players, we require dependable characters and athletes, and Palhinha stands out as one of the finest, both on the pitch and off it.
"I hope to see more players exhibit similar character, mindset and determination, and we are fortunate to count on him."
Vicario, Maddison and Solanke unavailable
De Zerbi began by providing extensive updates on the injury-hit Tottenham squad, starting with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
“Vicario is not prepared yet. I am unsure of the strategy moving forward. He is struggling because he wishes to support the team and his colleagues. However, he remains unavailable.
"James Maddison is on my mind as I observe a truly elite talent. He might not be fully fit yet, not in terms of physical fitness, but regarding the pace and demands of the matches, especially in the Premier League, which is the toughest competition globally for tempo and vigour.
"Regarding Solanke, his progress is rapid. I am not certain if he will feature in this match.”
