Cristian Chivu Reflects on Player Career as Inter Milan Secure 21st Serie A Title

The 45-year-old coach, who began his role in June, enjoyed seven years at Inter as a player and featured in Jose Mourinho's triumphant 2010 treble squad. He assumed leadership following last season's disappointing conclusion, during which Inter surrendered the championship on the concluding matchday prior to enduring a 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

"I simply aim to be the finest version of myself and support these players, who at times require motivation or firmness," Chivu stated to DAZN Italia.

"I draw from the insights gained in numerous dressing rooms, while avoiding the pitfalls I faced during my playing career.

"I focus on being compassionate and perceptive, disregarding opinions from external commentators and concentrating solely on the perspectives of those nearest to me. Being the coach means constant evaluation and vulnerability; that is inherent to the position."

Inter have netted 82 goals across this campaign, surpassing Napoli by 30, which highlights their bold strategy under Chivu.

"Our goal was to remain attacking throughout, with adjustments against specific rivals, such as utilising two creative midfielders," explained the Romanian coach.

"Grasping the diverse phases of matches is equally vital."

Inter have amassed 82 points with three fixtures remaining, holding a 12-point advantage over Napoli in second position. They will visit Lazio on Saturday.
