'Convenient timing': PSV squad organises Ibiza trip amid Ajax fixture week
The Eredivisie fixture list for round 31 has been adjusted to accommodate King's Day, the national holiday in the Netherlands. The round's games will commence on Wednesday and wrap up on Saturday, ensuring that police resources are not stretched thin during the vibrant festivities.
Capitalising on the additional free days, PSV has arranged a victory getaway for the champions to the Spanish island of Ibiza. The scheduling raised eyebrows for some, given that PSV faces arch-rivals Ajax on Saturday, May 2nd.
Manager Peter Bosz viewed this as unproblematic, with his PSV outfit due to play PEC Zwolle on Thursday: "The timing suits us nicely. We factored in the weekend without matches. I had already planned two rest days for the squad, now repurposed for this outing," Bosz remarked at the pre-match media session.
"The players needed a chance to bond as a group, and the internationals especially deserved a pause. They have been pushing relentlessly."
Bosz stressed that PSV's training routine remains routine, featuring a public session on Tuesday, though the experienced 62-year-old manager wished the brief respite would not unsettle the team's momentum.
"It's a double-edged sword. High-level athletics demands equilibrium at all times, yet for the immediate fixture, it may play less of a role. Still, numerous players are bound for the World Cup, and reaching such an event in top form is essential. We must stay sharp; for those World Cup travellers, the campaign is far from concluded."
