Colombian Footballer James Rodriguez Hospitalised Owing to Intense Dehydration
The 34 year old ex Real Madrid and Everton forward participated in Sundays World Cup preparation fixture in Landover Maryland where Colombia suffered a 3-1 defeat. He got replaced after 63 minutes looking lethargic and somewhat detached during play.
He "showed signs of intense dehydration necessitating his admission to hospital during the last 72 hours," according to the federation.
Rodriguez received treatment at a facility in Minnesota the location of his Major League Soccer team Minnesota United "to undergo precautionary medical checks and recuperation."
Minnesota United verified that Rodriguez is on the mend informing AFP that updates on his availability for this weekends encounter against LA Galaxy would come on Friday.
Rodriguez signed with the MLS outfit back in February yet has only logged 39 minutes on the pitch thus far because of setbacks. The federations announcement clarified that this hospital stay has no connection to prior issues.
Questions linger over his conditioning as Colombia gears up for their summer World Cup effort facing Uzbekistan DR Congo and Portugal in Group K.
He led the scoring charts at the 2014 World Cup before moving to Real Madrid shortly afterwards.
He still holds a key position within the Colombian squad. Manager Nestor Lorenzo drew flak for picking Rodriguez to start versus France and an earlier exhibition against Croatia even with his limited recent game time.
