Chelsea under pressure claims team possesses solid groundwork for triumphs says stand in manager Calum McFarlane

The ex Liverpool defender commented following Chelseas sixth consecutive league loss on Monday versus Nottingham Forest.

Chelsea have dropped to ninth position in the Premier League standings and their chances of making next years Champions League seem finished.

However McFarlane who assumed control after Liam Rosenior got dismissed last month remained optimistic regarding Chelseas prospects before Saturdays fixture at Liverpool.

"Its Jamies role hes an analyst hes supposed to share his views and I appreciate that its his duty and what hes there for. I can merely discuss my time at this club" McFarlane stated on Thursday.

"And I believe there are numerous building blocks for this squad to achieve victories. We are not in top shape right now we are not playing as we ought to but I do believe there are building blocks present for this squad to thrive."

The English manager whose side defeated Leeds last month to advance to the FA Cup final versus Manchester City rejected suggestions that his players had lost motivation as the campaign nears its close.

"The displays have not met the required standard we are enduring a terrible streak currently" he remarked. "The Leeds showing offered a spark where we felt we might progress from that and we failed to.

"Yet I observe these players daily every practice session every discussion in the fitness centre. They are well positioned to approach matches aggressively. We simply have not managed to apply that on the field."

McFarlane indicated that young player Jesse Derry will sit out the remainder of the season after being carried off on a stretcher during the 3 1 loss to Forest due to a nasty head collision but he noted the updates were "encouraging".
