Chelsea reveal biggest ever pre-tax deficit of £262.4m in 2024/25 accounts
Manchester City hold the prior record for the largest pre-tax loss in the Premier League at £197.5 million from the 2010/11 campaign.
In the prior financial year Chelsea recorded a surplus of £128.4m however this benefited from transferring the womens team to Blueco Midco a related entity for close to £200 million.
The club attributed the deficit partly to higher running expenses during 2024/25 versus the year before.
The team reported earnings of £490.9 million marking the second best figure in club history and incorporating funds from their victory in the previous seasons Club World Cup.
Just recently Chelsea confessed to violating Premier League regulations over £47.5 million in unrevealed transactions from the era of ex-owner Roman Abramovich.
They received a £10.75 million penalty and a deferred one-year ban on transfers from the league.
Nevertheless in contrast to fellow teams they avoided any deduction in league points a decision the Premier League backed citing that the clubs current ownership group headed by American investor Todd Boehly voluntarily disclosed the details sparking the probe and showed outstanding collaboration all along.
The side was found to meet the Premier Leagues profitability and sustainability regulations known as PSR across the three years up to 2024/25.
These guidelines permit losses up to £105 million across three years though certain expenditures detailed in financial statements may be excluded from PSR calculations such as investments in female football and academy programmes.
On Wednesday Chelsea further disclosed that their womens squad recent winners of Englands top Womens Super League title for three consecutive years incurred a £17.1 million shortfall even with £21.3 million brought in through income.
