Chelsea huddle not meant to 'antagonise' says Rosenior

Liam Rosenior stressed that Chelsea's debated pre-match gathering is not intended to provoke rivals, while he chose not to disclose whether it will happen before their Tuesday encounter with Paris Saint-Germain.

His squad experienced an odd moment before their 1-0 loss to Newcastle on Saturday, where referee Paul Tierney ended up at the centre of the huddle right before the start.

The Blues have adopted this pre-match assembly on the pitch's centre, with certain analysts suggesting it disrespects the opposing side.

Rosenior maintains that the practice aims not to intimidate, yet he avoided stating if they will persist with it during the Champions League last-16 return fixture versus champions PSG at Stamford Bridge.

"I believe it's been exaggerated. It's a minor issue amid numerous critical matters we must tackle, like the enormous match against PSG," Rosenior explained to journalists on Monday.

"The players have consistently aimed to display solidarity and cohesion, so I expect they'll keep doing so. However, we aim to avoid provoking others or attracting extra attention.

"We'll decide the location for it on the pitch tomorrow."

Rosenior mentioned he intends to confer with the referees' body PGMOL this week regarding rulings that have disadvantaged his side.

"I see it as a media diversion," he added.

"The huddle stemmed from the players' wish to demonstrate unity. They form a solid team. We never intended to provoke anybody or stir up fuss.

"We face a massive clash with PSG tomorrow. We have a chance to achieve something truly remarkable. We understand perfection is required. I'd prefer to concentrate on that."

Chelsea back Reece James may be sidelined for multiple weeks following a hamstring issue in the Newcastle game.

The 26-year-old inked a fresh six-year deal on Friday, but he will sit out for Rosenior, starting with Tuesday's fixture.

Malo Gusto might also be absent due to sickness as the Blues seek a dramatic comeback from 5-2 behind.

"Reece sensed discomfort in his hamstring towards the close of the Newcastle match," Rosenior noted.

"With a hamstring problem, it might mean weeks out, which is never ideal. We hope to have it scanned soon, to gauge the severity, then we'll learn more.

"We recognise his vital role as a leader in the squad. He's our captain."
