Chelsea happy to rotate goalkeepers, says Rosenior
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior stated on Friday that he lacks a designated primary goalkeeper following the decision to bench Robert Sanchez in the midweek fixture.
The English coach opted for Denmark international Filip Jorgensen during the 4-1 win over Aston Villa, shortly after Sanchez, the season's preferred option, faltered in a loss to Premier League frontrunners Arsenal.
Ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup clash with second division side Wrexham, Rosenior addressed queries regarding his approach to selecting goalkeepers.
"In my view, I assess the goalkeeper role uniquely for every match," he explained. "I aim for rivalry across all positions on the field.
"Historically, switching goalkeepers often signals a new primary choice, but that is not the situation here, not at all.
"We intend to select the optimal lineup for each encounter."
Rosenior dismissed concerns about maintaining rhythm and assurance.
"Consistency matters, yet securing victories in matches is essential," he noted. "Whether through contemporary tactics, traditional methods, or otherwise.
"I choose the squad I believe offers the strongest chance of success per game. I have not fielded the identical starting eleven in any match so far.
"Critics might argue for more stability, suggesting that defeats stem from insufficient continuity, while triumphs validate the choices."
Appointed at Stamford Bridge in January, Rosenior praised Spain's Sanchez for handling the benching positively.
"I have discussed (winger Alejandro) Garnacho and his response to exclusion from the lineup," he added.
"For us to thrive, both immediately and over time, a cohesive squad with the appropriate mindset is crucial, and Rob has excelled in this regard thus far."
Rosenior anticipated a challenging contest in Saturday's fifth round matchup against Hollywood-supported Wrexham, a team that has achieved three consecutive promotions and currently occupies a Championship play-off position.
"Observing a club progress, evolve, advance, and ascend the divisions makes for an inspiring narrative," remarked the Chelsea head coach, while commending Wrexham's manager Phil Parkinson.
"They have accomplished impressive work, and I believe Phil has performed exceptionally... We recognise this will prove a formidable fixture. It is an upwardly mobile club with positive momentum."
