Chelsea and Spurs Set for Landmark Sydney Showdown

Premier League powerhouses Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are scheduled to compete for the first time beyond the shores of Britain next year as they square off during a pre-season visit to Sydney, according to officials on Monday.

The fierce London competitors have agreed to participate in the "Sydney Super Cup", featuring Chelsea in an additional fixture against A-League outfit Western Sydney Wanderers, and Spurs taking on Sydney FC.

The two teams will then go head-to-head on 1 August at the Olympic Stadium, which can accommodate 83,000 fans.

"I've heard plenty about our dedicated supporters in Australia, and it's a point of pride for the club," commented Spurs head coach Thomas Frank. "I'm eager to witness it firsthand."

Chelsea will additionally field their women's squad, led by Australian standouts Sam Kerr and Ellie Carpenter, in a game versus a women's A-League All-Stars selection on 12 August.

"The 2026 Sydney Super Cup is poised to deliver an outstanding display of elite football," remarked A-League director Stephen Conroy.

"It offers a prime chance for the diverse international players in our competitions to measure up against the titans of global football."
