Celtic name Wilfried Nancy as latest manager

Celtic have named French coach Wilfried Nancy as the fresh manager for the Scottish title holders, signing him up on Wednesday for a contract lasting two and a half years.

The 48 year old is relocating to Glasgow after leading Columbus Crew in the United States, securing both the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup over his three year tenure there.

That said, he lacks any experience managing teams in Europe, with his sole prior top level coaching position coming at MLS outfit CF Montreal.

Brendan Rodgers left the team back in October following a bitter dispute with the board regarding funds for bolstering the first team roster.

Still, temporary manager Martin ONeill has kept things stable at Celtic Park, picking up victories in six of their last seven outings across various tournaments.

Celtic stands as one of the genuine greats in world football, full of genuine vibe and passion, with true excellence and expectations that I am prepared to meet, Nancy commented in an official club release.

I understand the clubs storied past, its core principles, and the responsibilities awaiting me ahead. I grasp the significance Celtic holds for countless supporters, and my primary goal remains straightforward, to deliver a robust, thrilling, forward playing, victorious side that fills our followers with immense pride.

Nancy will face an immediate challenge with a league leading encounter versus Hearts at Celtic Park this Sunday, then hosting Roma in the Europa League, plus the Scottish League Cup showdown with St Mirren set for December 14.

Yet he joins the side in much stronger shape across the board, owing to the successes under ONeill and his deputy Shaun Maloney in the past few weeks.

I must express my gratitude to the outstanding Martin ONeill and Shaun Maloney for their efforts with the squad lately. Their contributions have proven exceptional, Nancy continued.

It falls to me now to build on this solid foundation, propel our esteemed club onward, and I am eager to dive in and join this remarkable organisation.
