Carrick highlights Man Utd diversity following Ratcliffes immigrant comments
Michael Carrick commended Manchester Uniteds diversity after co owner Jim Ratcliffe sparked backlash by stating that the United Kingdom has been colonised by immigrants.
Ratcliffe faced widespread condemnation for his comments last week and subsequently expressed regret if they had upset anyone.
Addressing the press on Friday for the first time since Ratcliffes provocative remarks, Uniteds interim manager Carrick emphasised the clubs commitment to inclusivity.
Sir Jim has issued a statement, and the club has followed up with its own, so it is not for me to expand on that. What I will say is that after spending many years at this club, we have always had a significant global influence, Carrick explained to journalists on Friday.
We take great pride in the atmosphere and ethos here, and we strive to uphold equality, diversity, and mutual respect in our daily operations.
Carrick enjoyed a 12 year career as a successful midfielder for United and is now in his second interim role as head coach after Ruben Amorims dismissal in January.
The 44 year old is firmly embedded in Uniteds traditions and remains convinced of the clubs genuine dedication to embracing individuals from every ethnic background.
Being part of this club means recognising our worldwide reach and the duties that come with it, he added.
From my own time here under different managers and with staff from varied origins, I am well aware of this aspect. I am truly proud of the principles the club represents.
Carrick believes that the uproar over Ratcliffes opinions will not harm his international team.
We possess a solid collective including players, staff, and everyone at the club. We maintain open dialogue and offer support to one another, Carrick noted before Mondays Premier League match away at Everton.
The players have shown excellent morale this week. We are eager for the upcoming fixture. Our focus is on mutual assistance and encouragement.
