Carrick Feels Plenty More Work Required to Claim Permanent Man Utd Position
Michael Carrick thinks that any assessment of his time as Manchester United manager ought to be postponed until the season concludes, even though there is increasing pressure for the ex-midfielder to receive an extended contract.
Carrick has triumphed in every one of the four matches since assuming control last month, lifting United to fourth place in the Premier League.
Currently, the 44 year old is set to lead the team only through the remainder of the campaign.
However, his turnaround of the clubs performance has led to a barrage of inquiries about his prospects for a full time appointment.
Carricks team heads to faltering West Ham on Tuesday, where they could climb to third spot temporarily before Aston Villa faces Brighton.
"We shouldnt evaluate success right now, as little has truly unfolded," Carrick remarked.
"There is hopefully much more ahead from now until seasons end, and then we will observe the outcome."
After the 2 0 victory against Tottenham on Saturday, United skipper Bruno Fernandes described Carrick as a "great manager".
The shift to a four man defence and bringing back Kobbie Mainoo to the engine room represent the key alterations Carrick has implemented since Ruben Amorims disastrous 14 month stint.
Yet, this tactical adjustment has also advanced Fernandes into a deeper playmaking position, where he is thriving.
"I appreciate his sharp footballing mind. He is clever, deeply invested in the club, and we all share the same goals," Carrick commented regarding the Portuguese star.
"Its gratifying to hear praise from respected players like Bruno, whom I admire greatly, but the focus remains on the collective, maximising team potential through collaboration."
A win at the London Stadium might ease the burden for one devoted United supporter who has endured nearly 500 days without a haircut.
Frank Ilett has gained over two million followers on social media after vowing in October 2024 to let his hair grow until United achieves five consecutive wins.
"Im conscious of it," Carrick stated. "My children have pointed it out to me, but it wont feature in any team briefing professionally.
"I grasp the situation and it brings a smile, yet it will not affect the final result."
