Calum McFarlane insists Chelsea must focus solely on upcoming FA Cup semi-final
McFarlane, who had a short spell as Chelsea's temporary manager in January after Enzo Maresca departed from the post, has now taken up the job once more following the dismissal of Rosenior on Wednesday, which came during a sequence of five straight defeats in the Premier League.
"There has been no need for a full team discussion to clear the air, and the squad is fully prepared for Sunday," McFarlane, a former member of Rosenior's coaching team, shared with journalists on Friday.
"The priority is to concentrate entirely on Sunday's match. We should not dwell on previous events, as they do not require further discussion. All efforts are directed towards that fixture."
McFarlane mentioned that he had a chat with Rosenior on the day of his sacking.
"He took it well, and our talk was positive. I hold Liam in high regard, even though I only met him upon his arrival at the club, where he made me feel very welcome. We built a strong rapport, and I am truly disappointed that things did not go as planned for him," he continued.
Estevao sidelined for remainder of campaign
Chelsea, aiming for their first FA Cup success since 2018, will have to manage without forward Estevao for the rest of the term, following a hamstring problem he picked up in last week's 1-0 defeat against Manchester United.
"Sadly, Estevao will not feature for us again this season. He faces a period on the sidelines," McFarlane noted, while addressing speculation that the 19-year-old Brazilian, whose birthday fell on Friday, might miss the World Cup in June.
Chelsea sit in eighth position in the Premier League table, trailing the top five, who secure Champions League spots, by seven points. Nevertheless, the team remains cohesive and determined to finish strongly, according to McFarlane.
"We have addressed the squad regarding the fixtures ahead and the opportunities that remain. The group is together in this. Our goal is to secure victories in all matches from here until the season concludes," he stated.
