Brighton's Milner equals Premier League appearance record
Brighton midfielder James Milner reached a Premier League milestone by making his 653rd appearance during the midweek game against Aston Villa.
The key moment for Milner arrived as he came on as a substitute during the opening half at Villa Park.
The 40 year old now stands level with Gareth Barry, the former Aston Villa and Manchester City player, for the highest number of matches in the Premier League.
Out of Milners 653 games, he has started 435 and entered from the substitutes bench on 218 occasions.
A Premier League title winner with both Liverpool and Manchester City, Milner has featured in 15 first division matches this season, including 13 as a substitute.
Milner, whose top flight debut came with Leeds in 2002, could surpass the outright record if he plays in Brightons upcoming league fixture at Brentford on 21 February.
