Brightons Milner breaks Premier League appearance record

James Milner achieved a fresh milestone with 654 Premier League outings by lining up for Brighton during their away match against Brentford on Saturday, the veteran now aged 40.

This effort sees Milner surpass the previous mark held by Gareth Barry, the former midfielder for Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Having first made his mark with Leeds by becoming the youngest Premier League scorer ever at just 16, Milner went on to have successful periods with Newcastle, Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

During his stints at City and Liverpool, he claimed three Premier League trophies along with two FA Cups and the Champions League title.

"He serves as an inspiration both during matches and off the field," commented Brightons manager Fabian Hurzeler, who is eight years Milners junior.

"It comes as no shock that he has reached this level, given his exceptional self-control.

"He puts in tremendous work each day and remains driven, always pushing forward, which presents a fine chance for him.

"Today marks a special occasion for him to demonstrate once more the reasons behind his status as the all-time leader in Premier League matches."
