Bremer and McKennie Find the Net as Juventus Overcome Genoa to Strengthen Fifth Spot in Serie A

Should Luciano Spalletti have advised his squad to think smartly ahead of kick-off they interpreted it quite directly yet productively.

Just under four minutes in a partial clearance looped back into the penalty area courtesy of Khephren Thuram flicked on by Lloyd Kellys forehead and nodded home by Bremer though it took a hefty deflection to beat Justin Bijlow.

Thuram nearly added to the tally with a strike from 25 yards soon after but Juves impressive opening led to another goal in the 17th minute.

During a swift break Weston McKennie passed to Francisco Conceicao who pulled defenders away before returning possession allowing the US midfielder to fire a low first-time effort.

Genoa at last built some momentum around the halfway mark yet their failure to convert was highlighted by the subsequent attempt on target a bending shot from Juves Kenan Yildiz easily gathered.

The Turin outfit nearly sealed matters two minutes shy of the interval as Yildiz headed Conceicaos lofted delivery back across but McKennie somehow nodded over from close range.

The midfielder must have questioned his fortune shortly into the second period when Thuram collected a set-piece delivery into the area and opted to pass rather than shoot yet McKennie could not quite reach to redirect it on target.

A mishandled clearance from Bijlow soon offered The Old Lady further opportunity with Jonathan David testing from distance only to strike the post.

Tommaso Baldanzi then registered Genoas initial effort on goal which Michele Di Gregorio who had come on for Mattia Perin during the break handled without trouble but McKennie atoned moments later with a vital interception to stop Aaron Caricol.

That said Bremer nearly forfeited his standout performance in the closing stages after fouling Caricol prompting VAR to upgrade a free-kick to a spot-kick.

Caricol stepped up but Di Gregorio anticipated well to block the penalty and later thwart the followers volley on the rebound cross.

The Juve shot-stopper ensured his shutout by parrying Patrizio Masinis downward header late on prior to Arkadiusz Milik clipping just wide from near the halfway line for Genoa.

The Zebras now boast five straight unbeaten league outings and dominance over Il Grifone who squandered a chance for back-to-back triumphs on the road.
