Big Pete: The Role of AI in Revolutionising Advanced Analytics in Football
Jonathan Whitmore discussed the ways artificial intelligence aids their efforts and the potential advancements in football analytics driven by the gathered data.
In the past, locating and handling information required hours of effort, but now automation is essential. Certain elements are managed by artificial intelligence, though manual verification is still required. This creates considerable workload, yet it ensures far better quality and pace.
"Looking ahead, we could reach a point where the system suggests tactical adjustments directly to a coach, for instance, recommending a formation shift since it would enhance the teams chances of scoring in a particular zone.
"All this is supported by precise figures, such as a potential fifteen per cent rise in the likelihood of victory."
Whitmore states that football analytics has advanced to an entirely new stage. “Many assume data is confined to touches, passes, or shots. These days, we also monitor movements off the ball, runs into the defensive line, and any actions that unsettle the opponents rear guard.
"Virtually every element is quantifiable, enabling us to assess its impact on the games momentum."
