BIG PETE: Fabiański discusses rivalry at Arsenal and a continental honour with West Ham
Lukasz Fabiański discussed his move to Arsenal and the intense rivalry in the squad. “Manuel Almunia and Jens Lehmann were already there, then I joined them. Not long after, Wojciech Szczęsny came on board too. It created a challenging environment.
"To be frank, I do not believe I was prepared for that role at the time, not only regarding my playing ability but particularly in terms of mental strength.
"Wojciech impressed everyone even as a young player, he exuded confidence. He needed to work on his physical build, yet his skill was immediately apparent. Right from the outset, it was clear he would develop into an elite goalkeeper.”
The Polish custodian also reflected on the Conference League decider in Prague. “No one could have foreseen West Ham securing a European honour. Perhaps a solid cup campaign or a strong FA Cup performance, but a continental championship seemed out of reach.
"The Prague showpiece held particular meaning for me with roughly thirty relatives in the stands. Following the game, we rejoiced together on the field and later back at the hotel. A truly memorable experience.”
