Benfica's Prestianni rejects 'nasty' claims of racial abuse towards Vinicius Jr
The young 20-year-old from Argentina faced claims of directing a racist remark at the Brazilian player back in February, as he hid his mouth behind his shirt.
Officials halted the game for a full 10 minutes, leading to the player receiving a ban for the return fixture from UEFA, who launched a probe into the matter.
Should UEFA determine that he targeted Vinicius with abuse, a minimum suspension of 10 games will follow.
Real Madrid advanced with a 3-1 overall scoreline to secure a spot in the Champions League knockout stage.
Speaking to the Argentine outlet Telefe, Prestianni expressed that sitting out the Madrid return match "was deeply painful" and firmly rejected the alleged slur.
"My thoughts turned to my parents and grandparents, considering how various untrue statements were circulating that do not match my character and simply did not occur," he shared during his initial discussion post-event.
"Such claims are nasty and cause immense pain."
He expressed deep appreciation to his team and fellow players for the backing he received within the club, while describing his manager, Jose Mourinho, as "an absolute standout".
Mourinho drew backlash for appearing to suggest that Vinicius's celebration after netting in the opening match may have triggered the supposed incident.
Later, the Benfica manager revised his comments, stating clearly that should the racism charges prove true via the inquiry, the Argentine talent would no longer feature under his guidance.
Prestianni earned a national team call-up for Argentina's recent friendly outings.
"Every single day I train hard to seize such chances," noted the wide player, who revealed his ultimate ambition is to represent the Albiceleste at a World Cup.
