Benfica winger Schjelderup receives visa for World Cup even with suspended jail term

Norwegian international Andreas Schjelderup has obtained a visa for the United States. The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) has verified this to Dagbladet.no.

Back in November of last year, Schjelderup received a 14 day prison sentence in Denmark after distributing a video featuring sexual material involving individuals below 18 years old.

During his court appearance in Denmark, Schjelderup explained:

"I got the video via Snapchat as a poor joke. Then I passed it on to a group of four mates, keeping the joke going. I only glanced at it for a couple of seconds. I did not watch the entire thing, but I understand it had sexual elements, and involved two young guys."

Schjelderup, recently performing exceptionally well for Benfica and scoring from a penalty in the clash with Sporting CP, faces a 12 month probation without any required community work.
