Benfica forward Schjelderup given conditional sentence in Denmark over minor's intimate video

Norwegian international and Benfica player Andreas Schjelderup received a 14 day suspended prison term in a Danish court on Wednesday after distributing a video depicting sexual acts with underage individuals, according to reports from Norwegian news outlets.

The 21 year old confessed to posting the 27 second clip via Snapchat.

Authorities in Denmark sought a 20 day custodial sentence as part of a guilty plea agreement, yet the court in Copenhagen opted for the lighter 14 day suspension coupled with 12 months of supervised release.

"This amounts to a caution," remarked Judge Mathias Eike while delivering the ruling, as cited by the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang.

The event occurred two years prior, during Schjelderup's tenure with the Danish team Nordsjaelland.

In court on Wednesday, he acknowledged forwarding the material as an ill judged prank to four acquaintances on the platform, per VG.

The forward issued a public apology via Instagram on 8 November, describing his action as a foolish error.

He explained that he removed the file soon after transmission, following a friend's alert regarding its inappropriate nature.

Schjelderup featured in Norway's World Cup qualifying match versus Estonia on 13 November, though he remained an unused substitute in the subsequent game against Italy on Sunday, marking the nation's return to the tournament after 28 years.

Officials from the Norwegian Football Federation have chosen not to apply further penalties to the athlete.
