Bayern Munich frustrated with lack of 'killer instinct' after loss to PSG
PSG secured a meeting with Arsenal in the final after a 1-1 draw in the return leg at Bayern, confirming a 6-5 win on aggregate.
Bayern have netted an astonishing 175 goals across all competitions this term yet failed to find the net until added time when Harry Kane levelled the score.
"We lacked major opportunities today yet generated sufficient chances to find the back of the net. We were missing the ruthless edge that PSG showed in converting their chances," Neuer told DAZN.
"We were near the final but could not advance further. Our strike arrived too late."
England skipper Kane's effort in the fourth minute of stoppage time was insufficient to spark hopes of another goal that might have prompted extra time for the home side.
"Sadly our goal was a touch delayed. We had no opportunity to build another attack or perhaps earn a free-kick," Neuer added.
"By then it was over."
Bayern have reached the German Cup decider and clinched the Bundesliga already but Neuer conceded that "disappointment dominates at present".
In comments to German television Bayern manager Vincent Kompany echoed his leader yet noted he would draw drive from the setback.
"I cannot remain downhearted for extended periods. Naturally in the conclusion we dropped two extremely close matches to a strong rival. It stings.
"We required greater determination. Well done to PSG. The Champions League concludes for us this year but opportunities will arise again and that fuels my resolve.
"We faced Paris on five occasions we triumphed twice lost twice and tied once which occurred today. We gave our all and that deserves recognition."
The loss dashed hopes for six-time Champions League champions Bayern to reach the final again since 2020 when they defeated PSG 1-0.
The Bundesliga powerhouses have now failed to progress past a two-legged semi-final since 2013 with their previous success in the disrupted 2019/20 campaign where quarter and semi-finals were one-off fixtures due to Covid.
