Bayern Dominate Gladbach Despite Kanes Absence to Advance in Title Pursuit

Bayern Munich claimed an easy 4-1 triumph against a faltering Borussia Moenchengladbach on Friday night, scarcely noticing the lack of Harry Kane while pressing on with their determined drive for a further Bundesliga crown.

The England skipper sat out due to a calf injury confirmed on Thursday, following his impressive tally of 45 strikes in 37 outings across every competition this term.

Yet the home side showed little impact from missing their captain, prevailing through strikes by Luis Diaz, Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala, and Nicolas Jackson.

This result extended Bayerns lead over Borussia Dortmund to 14 points with nine fixtures left, serving as perfect preparation for the upcoming Champions League last-16 opener versus Atalanta next week.

Having already notched 92 goals, Bayern sit just nine short of their own Bundesliga record from the 1971-72 season, as Kane requires 12 more to surpass Robert Lewandowskis single-season league mark of 41 in 34 matches.

Gladbach dropped to ten players after Rocco Reitz received a red card for fouling inside the area on 55 minutes, allowing Musiala to bury the subsequent penalty.

Five-time Bundesliga champions Gladbach, who endured only one second-division stint this century, currently hold a mere three-point buffer above Werder Bremen in the relegation playoff position.

The 17-year-old Gladbach midfielder Wael Mohya netted in the 89th minute, marking him as the youngest scorer in the clubs history.

Kanes brace during Bayerns 3-2 success at Borussia Dortmund the previous weekend effectively locked in another Bundesliga title for the powerhouses, who have claimed 12 of the last 13 domestic honours.

Even without Kane on the pitch and Michael Olise starting from the substitutes bench, Gladbach might have anticipated a stronger showing, but they trailed shortly after the 30-minute mark as Diaz volleyed home a pass from Leon Goretzka.

Bayern struck again right before the interval when Diaz set up Laimer to blast in the second goal.

Any remaining optimism for the away team evaporated when their leader Reitz tugged at Jackson in the penalty area, resulting in a spot-kick and his dismissal.

With usual penalty expert Kane watching from the luxury seats, Musiala took charge and slotted away the kick. This marked Musialas initial league goal this season, having sat out the opening six months recovering from a fractured leg.

Jackson finished off a cross from Lennart Karl to extend the score to four, prior to Mohya grabbing a consolation for Gladbach in the dying moments.
