Barcelona Fan Mix-up: Ends Up at Exeter's St James Park

An embarrassed Barcelona supporter experienced an unexpected night of third division English football, confusing Exeter's St James Park with Newcastle's renowned stadium.

Lamine Yamal grabbed a dramatic late equaliser for the Spanish title holders, resulting in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle's St James' Park during Tuesday's Champions League fixture, as the return match of their last-16 clash approaches next week.

Yet the unidentified Barcelona follower missed the excitement entirely, located almost 600 kilometres away in England's southwestern location of Exeter.

In place of observing the five-time continental victors, he viewed League One outfit Exeter City facing off against league frontrunners Lincoln, a contest that concluded with a 1-0 victory for the away side.

Exeter officials noted they made every effort to assist the misguided attendee.

'A member of our volunteer staff visited the office to alert us that this individual had arrived hoping to catch FC Barcelona in action,' commented Adam Spencer, the supporter experience coordinator for Exeter.

'His command of English was limited, yet we understood he had travelled from London. I suspect he entered St James Park into his device and simply followed the navigation from that point.

'He appeared quite disappointed and mildly ashamed. Thus, we provided him with a ticket, enabling him to take in a match at the authentic St James Park. He would always be invited to visit again.'
