Atlético Madrid claimed a straightforward 3-0 triumph against Mallorca on Sunday, reinforcing their third position in La Liga while sitting seven points adrift of temporary frontrunners Real Madrid.

Following Villarreal's loss in fourth place to Real Madrid the previous day, Diego Simeone's squad seized the moment with a convincing home performance, pulling three points ahead of the Yellow Submarine.

Alexander Sørloth and Thiago Almada netted for the home side, bookended by an own goal from David López at the Metropolitano stadium.
