Arteta Labels Odegaard 'Very Unlucky' with Weeks Sidelined Ahead

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed on Friday that skipper Martin Odegaard might sit out until beyond the November international window because of the Norwegian's recent injury blow.

Odegaard made history for the wrong reasons as the initial player in Premier League records to leave the pitch before the interval in three straight outings, departing with a knee issue versus West Ham on October 3.

The 26 year old has already battled a persistent shoulder issue during the current campaign.

"It will take weeks. We lack a precise return timeline, yet he is improving nicely. It is truly unfortunate, all these injuries striking him this term," Arteta commented prior to Arsenal's journey to Fulham on Saturday.

"Possibly after the upcoming international period, although we must monitor his development, the knee recovery, and his response to further rehabilitation stages, so it is premature to specify," he continued.

Even with Odegaard's interrupted campaign launch and absences of Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, William Saliba, and Noni Madueke, Arsenal have surged to the Premier League summit.

The Gunners hold a one point edge over challengers Liverpool following seven fixtures, aiming to surpass their third place finishes from the prior three years.

Viktor Gyokeres joined to address Arsenal's shortage of a consistent goalscorer.

However, the Swede has managed only three goals across 10 outings and remains goalless in his previous eight club and international games.

Arteta expressed support for the 27 year old, insisting he would deliver and highlighting satisfaction with Gyokeres' overall contributions thus far.

"He contributes immensely to the squad, and reviewing the matches, I am quite content with his input," Arteta noted.

"In our initial discussion, I explained, 'the striker role I envision is one who can cope with not scoring over six or eight matches. Otherwise, seek another club, given the demands and scrutiny.'

"Wearing the number nine for Arsenal demands resilience: 'If I go six games without a goal, does that change me? Do I alter my approach?'

"I desire more of his current efforts. When chances arise, convert them. I am confident it will occur."
