Arteta hints at Gabriel Jesus starting for Arsenal in Carabao Cup tie against Palace

Mikel Arteta has suggested that he might give Gabriel Jesus his first starting role in almost a year during Arsenal's Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

The Premier League frontrunners will welcome Oliver Glasner's team to the Emirates Stadium, eager to snap their six-year wait for silverware.

Last season, Jesus netted a treble in Arsenal's last-eight victory over Palace, though they were later knocked out by Newcastle in the semi-finals.

The Brazilian forward was then sidelined for 11 months due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

After coming off the bench in three recent games, Jesus may now feature from the outset against Palace, as Arteta plans to freshen up his squad ahead of a packed schedule of six fixtures in 20 days.

The victor will face Chelsea next.

Arteta stated that the 28-year-old ex-Manchester City striker is prepared for a start.

"You can tell from his performances in matches and daily sessions how keen he is, so he will earn an opportunity shortly," Arteta commented.

"It has been quite a challenging path. Upon arriving, he boosted the team's confidence, morale, and vitality, bringing a fresh dynamic that stood out.

"Unfortunately, serious injuries prevented him from delivering the steady contributions expected from such a key figure.

"Now he is returning with his remarkable determination and commitment to optimal preparation. The squad is united, and we must harness that."

Jesus might replace Viktor Gyokeres, who netted from a penalty in Arsenal's 1-0 triumph over Everton on Saturday but has failed to score from open play in his last six outings.
