Arteta apologises to Rosenior after disrespect row
Mikel Arteta has issued an apology to Liam Rosenior following the Chelsea managers claim that Arsenal showed a lack of respect prior to their League Cup semi final encounter.
Rosenior expressed frustration over Arsenal personnel entering the Chelsea section of the pitch during the warmup session at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.
He was observed yelling at them to remain in their designated area and subsequently commented: "I have never instructed my players or staff to invade the opponents space. At that time, I felt their positioning was inappropriate as it disrupted our preparation.
"I requested, perhaps not in the most courteous manner, that they confine themselves to their side. I hold Mikel in high regard. However, in that instance, I believed my squad was not afforded the due respect."
Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over Chelsea, clinching a 4-2 aggregate win which earned them a spot in the final against Manchester City on March 22.
In response to Roseniors remarks, Arsenal manager Arteta addressed the media on Friday: "That is his perspective and we value everyones views.
"Should any member of our team have overstepped, we offer our regrets. Such occurrences are quite typical in the sport. Goalkeepers often require space for long kicks."
With Manchester City scheduled to play Liverpool on Sunday, Arsenal could extend their lead at the Premier League summit if they defeat Sunderland at the Emirates on Saturday.
The Gunners lead by six points over City in second and seven ahead of Aston Villa in third as they pursue their first English championship since 2004.
Increasing the gap to nine points would intensify the pressure on City ahead of their challenging trip to Anfield, where they have faced difficulties during the Pep Guardiola tenure.
Nevertheless, mindful that Arsenal drew with Sunderland earlier this term, Arteta remains cautious regarding discussions of the title race.
"We lack the time to dwell on such matters. Our focus is on matches and sessions. We are still a long way off. Its expected. Our aim is to grow and refine our play," Arteta noted.
"Sunderland has enjoyed a remarkable streak throughout the campaign. We recognise the challenges this fixture presents.
"This represents yet another chance to secure points and advance our standing. Nothing more."
Beyond their strong showings in the Premier League and League Cup, Arsenal remain competitive in the Champions League and FA Cup pursuits.
The north London club has not claimed silverware since the 2020 FA Cup triumph.
"This is a fantastic collective and they have performed exceptionally thus far," Arteta remarked.
"We are all thrilled and fortunate to share this journey. We intend to savour it through to the seasons conclusion."
