Arsenal defender Gabriel sidelined from Brazil call-up due to knee problem

Gabriel joins four other players in pulling out of international commitments, with Jurrien Timber, Eberechi Eze, William Saliba and Leandro Trossard remaining in North London for recovery and rest.

The Brazilian Football Confederation has stated that Gabriel will miss the upcoming friendlies against France and Croatia because of an issue with his right knee.

"Arsenal's Gabriel Magalhaes will sit out the friendlies versus France and Croatia. After the English League Cup final against Manchester City on Sunday, he reported discomfort in his right knee.

"Scans have verified that Gabriel Magalhaes remains unfit for the fixtures during this FIFA international period. No substitute will be summoned in his place," the organisation stated.

This update comes alongside Martin Odegaard missing out on a Norway selection and Estevao being omitted from the Brazil squad, as both continue their injury rehabilitation.

Post-international break, Arsenal will take on Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, followed by a Champions League encounter with Sporting just three days after.

Head coach Mikel Arteta is eager for several squad members to regain full fitness ahead of the club's return to domestic action, as they pursue a treble and their initial silverware since 2020.
