Arne Slot voices concern about Hugo Ekitikes severe injury scare
A potentially grave injury to Ekitike worsened an already tough evening for the Premier League title holders, with Ousmane Dembele scoring twice to secure a 2-0 victory at Anfield for the defending champions, advancing them to the semi finals 4-0 overall.
The ex PSG forward collapsed awkwardly, clutching his lower right leg amid fears of a torn Achilles tendon which might also dash his chances of playing for France at the World Cup.
"It looks really bad, but difficult for me to say how bad," said Slot.
"Tomorrow, we will investigate this further. Let's see, but it doesn't look good."
Slot had teamed Ekitike with Alexander Isak up top, marking Isaks first start since his leg fracture in December.
Injuries have played a huge role in a challenging year for Liverpool, leaving them in fifth place in the Premier League and facing a trophyless finish.
"Losing a player is something we have had many times this season, but it is especially hard for him because you never want to be injured, especially at this time of the season," added Slot.
"The good thing is Alex is back."
