Amorim Confident Manchester United Can Challenge for Premier League Crown Soon
Ruben Amorim is convinced that Manchester United can secure the Premier League title much earlier than the decade or more that Sir Alex Ferguson predicts it might require.
The club has not added to its tally of 20 English top flight triumphs since the legendary Scot retired as a winner in 2013.
Ferguson recently remarked to Press Box PR that United now face a similar predicament to Liverpool during their three decade drought without a league success.
The iconic figure suggested it might be a decade or thereabouts before the Premier League silverware graces Old Trafford again, yet Amorim remains assured it will happen sooner.
"He knows the game better than I do, particularly the English scene," the present United manager stated to journalists on Friday.
"I believe we will not require that much time to claim the league. Who the manager will be then, I cannot say.
"However, I genuinely feel we can compete for the championship within the coming few years. It should not demand so many seasons."
Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League standings, United prepare for Sundays encounter with third positioned Aston Villa following a patchy campaign to date.
During his pre game media briefing, Amorim was also questioned about remarks from Bruno Fernandes to Portuguese outlets, where the team skipper revealed the club had aimed to offload him during the summer transfer period.
Fernandes noted that Amorim included him in future plans, which swayed him to remain at Old Trafford, though he expressed pain over the executive decisions.
Amorim commented that his fellow Portuguese player, who arrived at United in 2020, had "expressed his true emotions".
"Naturally, we could sidestep such issues since we are aware of the distractions, but he discussed it with the directors and I believe matters are resolved," the United head coach added.
Fernandes further implied that not all supporters back United as fiercely as he does.
"I am unsure if that is just," Amorim replied. "He merely shared his personal views. He must address that himself, not I.
"In my opinion, he sets a standard by committing fully. He risks it all in each practice and every game. In that aspect, he stands out."
