Aliou Cisse Senegal Icon Steps Down as Libya Head Coach

The 50 year old, appointed in March 2025 to a two year contract with an option to extend for one more, announced his resignation on Wednesday via social media.

Last March stood out for me, marking my last training camp as manager of the Libya national side. It proved an enriching journey on both professional and personal levels, and I could not depart without speaking directly to you from the heart, Cisse shared on Instagram.

To the coaching team and players: in spite of the obstacles we encountered, I take pride in our joint efforts and the outcomes we secured. I have strong faith in this squad, and I am certain you will keep pushing to advance it further.

To the Libyan supporters: thank you for the heartfelt reception, your passion, and boundless backing. You will always hold a special place in my memory, and I am sure the Knights of the Mediterranean can rely on your ongoing loyalty. I send my best wishes for what lies ahead.

Over his tenure, the ex Senegal standout managed 10 fixtures, claiming three triumphs, five stalemates, and two losses, including draws in his concluding outings against Niger Republic and Liberia.

While Cisse instilled discipline within the North African outfit, their performances yielded mixed results, often failing to convert promising displays into victories.

In the face of these trials, the mastermind behind Senegal's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations success voiced open appreciation for the privilege of helming the Mediterranean Knights.

Consequently, the Libyan Football Federation faces the task of finding a successor after Cisse's unexpected departure.
