Alexander Isak Returns to Liverpool Team After Extended Injury Layoff Ahead of Paris Trip

Alexander Isak has featured in just 16 matches for Liverpool since his record-breaking transfer from Newcastle last season, hampered by ongoing fitness problems.

Back in December, Isak suffered an injury from a challenge by Micky van de Ven as he was about to net the first goal in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham, resulting in ankle surgery that addressed a fibula fracture.

Now, after 15 weeks out, the 26-year-old is set to be part of the Liverpool lineup once more.

"Alexander Isak was one of the players who left John Lennon Airport for Paris this afternoon, in preparation for Wednesday evenings quarter-final first leg at Parc des Princes," stated Liverpool on their official site.

Isak rejoined team training last Thursday and joined his colleagues for sessions on Tuesday morning prior to the flight to France.

The void left by Isak has been noticeable, and his inclusion in the 21-player group travelling to Paris may provide a significant lift for Arne Slots underperforming team.

Tension is building around Slot and his squad following their disappointing 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday.

Liverpool sit in fifth position in the Premier League, with the Champions League representing their sole remaining chance for a trophy this campaign.

The Reds exited the Champions League via penalties against PSG in the round of 16 during 2025.
